Botox and Fillers Q & A

What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox is an injectable medication that temporarily reduces the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles, and folds. It’s formulated from a carefully controlled volume of a neurotoxin called Clostridium botulinum, a substance found naturally in lakes and forests.

When injected into targeted facial muscles, Botox prevents those muscle fibers from going through their full range of motion. That means they won’t be able to tug and pull your skin into lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Botox is FDA-approved for aesthetic use in treating frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. It is also sometimes used off-label to ease wrinkling in other areas of the face and neck like platysmal bands. Botox injections take just a couple of moments to place, and the results last around 4-6 months.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that replace or enhance your facial volume. During youth, your face is padded with a thick layer of collagen, which creates the rounded contouring often referred to as a “baby face.” Over the years, you naturally lose much of that collagen.

Without this padding, your skin begins to sag and pool into lines, wrinkles, and folds. Dermal fillers restore that volume by smoothing and plumping your skin. There are many types of dermal fillers, each formulated for a specific area of the face.

Many fillers last around four months, but some can last much longer. Dr. Taweh can discuss which options are right for you during your initial consultation.

What is a liquid facelift?

The term “liquid facelift” is used to describe a combination of injectable treatments. In the hands of a skilled practitioner like Dr. Taweh, Botox and dermal fillers can be used to create impressive yet natural-looking results.

Many people choose a liquid facelift to achieve noticeable improvements in the contouring of their facial features. That approach helps you look your best without the risks associated with plastic surgery. You can also begin enjoying your refreshed and renewed look without a lengthy recovery time.

Best of all, research shows that dermal fillers also prompt your body to produce new collagen cells. That means you’ll achieve natural and lasting results that will linger even after your body absorbs the filler materials.

At Prime Medi Spa, Dr. Taweh performs all injectables and offers more than seven years of experience in aesthetic injectables. Call the office or click today to book a visit.
